Company Profile
"You tell us where to find gas and we’ll take care of the rest"
Pro2 Anlagentechnik GmbH was founded in 1994 and has its headquarters in Willich on the Lower Rhine near Düsseldorf, Germany. With the plants and services from Pro2, renewable energy is produced, which, in turn, verifiably reduces the amount of hazardous substances released into the environment. Pro2 technologies make a major contribution to danger prevention, conservation of resources and to the reduction of CO2s.
The company started with a focus on landfill gas. However, since the end of the 90s, Pro2 has emerged as one of the leading system manufacturers in the area of decentralised energy technology and bioenergy with an especially strong international orientation. The core competence of Pro2 lies in the development and construction of turn-key plants for energy supply, gas treatment and gas utilisation. Our product range includes co-generation power plants and systems for the utilisation of biogas, sewage gas, coal mine gas and landfill gas. For the decentralised energy supply, Pro2 offers co-generation power plants with gas engines ranging from 200 kW to 2,000 kW electric output per module. Where energy utilisation is not possible, Pro2 flare stations, bio filter facilities or lean gas facilities are employed.
Our company’s principle “You tell us where to find gas and we’ll take care of the rest” is applied resolutely in our customer-oriented products and services. That’s why Pro2 also offers complete maintenance packages along with the development and construction of the plants. This is important for the customer because it also ensures smooth, continuous operation. These services are the prerequisite for achieving optimum profitability of the plant. In other words: the higher the availability, the higher the profitability. The Pro2 range of services encompasses correspondingly comprehensive services for the maintenance, monitoring, financing and operational management of the plants.
Pro2 has 150 employees in Germany as well as subsidiaries France, Hungary and Belgium. The company generated a turnover of 39 million Euros in 2007. In Germany, 40 % of turnover is generated in the area of biogas. Further growth potential is also to be seen in the area of biogas plants used in agriculture. This is to come from both the construction of new plants and the re-powering of existing plants, which means that the capacity of existing plants is increased.
In the last few years, the company has greatly intensified its international activities. Pro2 now exports plants, services and expertise to 20 countries – and this trend is increasing significantly. To date, Pro2 has been able to bring 111 megawatt (MW) biogas plants into the market. This amounts to more than 600 plants installed with a total of about 300 MW in 21 countries since the founding of the company. In addition, the company operates another 28 plants itself. In the future, Pro2 is determined to continue to grow organically. However, expansion and strengthening of the product and services portfolio by means of acquisitions also presents a viable option for growth. Our ambitious growth targets are between ten and 20 per cent p.a.
The company’s goal is to put into practice for its customers efficient and economically attractive overall concepts. This is also achieved by eliminating technologically and contractually demanding interfaces between gas treatment and gas utilisation. The energy needed for plant construction and for future plant operation is reduced, leading to further cost reductions and, consequently, amounting to a decisive competitive advantage for Pro2 plants.
The plants are manufactured and assembled at the company’s main plant in Willich, a highly advanced facility equipped with the most modern technology available. All plants are developed and constructed by our own team of engineers in the product engineering department. The integration of important suppliers in system partnerships and the use of high-quality component parts assures flexible production, short term delivery and high product quality.
Co-generation power plants / combined heat and power (CHP)
Pro2 plants use exceptionally efficient gas engines. Owing to their compact modular design, the plants may be easily integrated into existing buildings and/or set up in the form of a container. The result of the integrated cooperation with gas treatment plants, flare stations and compressor stations from the Pro2 product range is a complete system, the effectiveness of which is exemplary.
Combined co- / tri-generation with CHP plants represents one of the core competences of Pro2. Modern, super high-efficiency engines are at the centre of our innovative plants for the co-generation of electricity, heating and cooling. The flexibility of our co-generation plants is demonstrated in, among other things, the large variety of fuels that may be used to run them: natural gas, biogenic gases, coal mine gas as well as special gases and vegetable oils. It’s even possible to use any combination of fuels in the dual-gas mode.
Compressor and fuel stations, purification plants / gas treatment
Compressor plants and disposal units with energy saving rotary piston blowers are optimally adjusted to the disposal conditions and to the downstream gas utilisation and gas disposal plants. Eventually required gas treatment, e.g. condensate separation, gas cooling / drying or gas cleaning, corresponds to the required gas quality. Plants constructed in a container-type design ensure flexibility.
Where gas utilisation is not possible, flare stations, lean gas disposal or bio filters are implemented.
New technologies: vegetable oil, ORC
The operation of co-generation power plants with rape, soy bean and palm oil is one of the attractive technologies of the future. The types of oils named are natural; they therefore count as renewable resources for the production of energy. For the most part, this technology is used for objects with corresponding heat requirements such as in horticulture.
ORC stands for Organic Ranking Cycle. Through the use of this technology for the production of electricity from the thermal discharge of the plant engines, electrical efficiency rates of biogas plants can be increased by approx. eight to twelve per cent. With an electrical efficiency rate of up to 45 per cent, these plants are at the same level of efficiency as large power plants.
Contracting
Pro2 will carry out the planning, construction, financing and operation of the plant on a contracting basis. The customer can stay focused on his core business, maintain liquidity, minimise risks and profit from a secure and dependable source of income.
Another alternative to purchasing is the use of rental equipment from Pro2 for gas production, gas treatment and gas utilisation. For the customer, this means: maintaining liquidity, minimising risk and the ability to integrate their own personnel into the operation of the plant.
Landfill gas
In landfills, gas is produced during the decomposition of organic materials within the waste. Released into the atmosphere uncontrolled, this combustible methane gas poses a hazard to the environment and places a strain on the climate. Pro2 is one of the market leaders in Europe for the disposal, treatment and utilisation of the gas generated in landfills.
The plant concepts in the area of landfill gas developed by Pro2 in container-type design have proven to be especially effective. Modular, flexible and cost effective, they assure long-term landfill gas utilisation and gas disposal. If gas quantities and/or gas qualities happen to change, container plants can be exchanged within a few hours.
Coal mine gas
Even long after the mines have been closed, coal mine gas containing methane continues to be released. If this occurs without control, there is a danger that coal mine gases could explode along with an intensification of the greenhouse effect.
Pro2 is a pioneer in coal mine gas utilisation, possessing well-founded expertise and experience in the exploration, production and utilisation of coal mining gas. The implementation of Pro2 container plants is effective in the area of coal mine gas as well. Flexible reaction to changing gas quantities is therefore possible in abandoned or active coal mines.
Biogas
Utilisation of biomass and organic waste in biogas plants for electricity and heat generation represents an important contribution towards the increased use of renewable resources. Bioenergy not only offers excellent prospects from the ecological point of view, but also creates new fields of activity and an additional, secure and dependable source of income for those involved in agriculture. The successive increase in the efficiency of existing plants in the field of agriculture is becoming more and more frequent.
Pro2 develops and constructs system solutions for biogas utilisation. They encompass gas production and gas cleaning systems, flare systems and biogas co-generation power plants. The concept of the system offers advantages with regard to plant construction and after-sales support and service: no interface problems, minimised engineering expenditure and high availability of the system for gas treatment, flare and biogas utilisation
Sewage gas
Treatment of waste water with sewage sludge digestion produces sewage gas containing methane. This can be used in the sewage treatment plant for electricity and heat generation via co-generation power plants. With the generated heat, the sludge can be treated and / or dried and the company buildings can be heated as well. The electricity gained can either be used for the operation of the sewage treatment plant or be fed into the public power grid.
Pro2 plants can be integrated into existing buildings or brought into use quickly and flexibly in a container type design. Gas treatment, if necessary, for an increase of pressure, condensate separation, cleaning or sewage gas disposal is also supplied by Pro2.
Special gases
Special gases encompass gases resulting from pyrolysis processes, solvent vapours containing hydrocarbon, and petrol vapours. Pro2 has developed a variety of system solutions for the disposal and energy utilisation of special gases.
